**Amritsar, Punjab:** The Border Security Force (BSF) has intercepted over 200 drones along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab this year, effectively doubling the number of seizures from 2023. The force attributes this significant increase to its enhanced anti-drone strategies and the deployment of advanced technology.
The BSF claims that Pakistan-based syndicates are using these drones to smuggle narcotics and weapons into India, aiming to destabilize the country by inducing drug addiction among youth and disrupting social harmony. The drones, primarily of Chinese origin, are loaded with drugs, small arms, and ammunition, with drugs being the most common payload.
“The unprecedented number of drone seizures this year showcases the BSF’s strengthened defenses against emerging challenges along the border,” said a BSF spokesperson. The force has implemented increasingly accurate anti-drone drills, successfully shooting down drones with rifles, jamming their flights using anti-drone technology, and recovering those that landed in fields based on intelligence and local tips.
The drone menace, which began around 2019-20, is most prevalent in the border districts of Amritsar and Tarn Taran in Punjab. BSF officials state that all drugs coming from Pakistan into Punjab are now transported via drones, replacing the earlier land route through pipes and flung over the fence.
This development highlights the evolving tactics employed by Pakistani narcotics syndicates and the BSF’s commitment to thwarting their efforts. The force’s success in curbing the drone menace is crucial for maintaining security along the border and protecting the country from the dangers of drug trafficking and organized crime.
