**VIJAYAWADA, November 9, 2024:** The Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (AP-CRDA) has announced an estimated ₹2,603 crore investment for flood management works in the capital region. The project includes expansion of Kondaveeti Vagu and Palavagu, the construction of pumping stations, and other crucial infrastructure.

The flood management plan, originally developed by TATA Consulting Engineers and Arcadis NV between 2015 and 2019, is based on a 100-year flood return period and anticipates a 222 mm rainfall in a 24-hour period. The plan was approved by the Water Resources Department and a government-appointed high-level committee.

After a five-year delay, the CRDA has decided to move forward with the project after receiving positive feedback from the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and climate experts. The expansion of the waterways, designed to increase both width and depth, is expected to be completed within three years.

The CRDA has acknowledged that the project would have been significantly cheaper if undertaken during 2019-2024. However, due to rising inflation, the current cost reflects the increased rates.
