Sat Nov 09 13:24:15 UTC 2024: ## Bangladesh Rebound After Shocking Loss to Afghanistan: Mehidy Hasan Remains Confident

Despite suffering a crushing defeat in the opening ODI of the three-match series against Afghanistan, Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan remains optimistic about the team’s chances of winning the series.

“We’ve beaten Afghanistan many times before,” Mehidy stated confidently on Friday. “Just because we lost one match doesn’t mean everything is lost.”

He attributed the loss to a sudden change in pitch conditions which caught the Bangladeshi batsmen off guard. “The pitch started turning slowly and then suddenly straightened out. You couldn’t predict which ball would turn and which one would go straight,” Mehidy explained. He admitted that both he and fellow batter Shanto made mistakes in the crucial moments of the game.

However, Mehidy emphasized the importance of focusing on the next match. “We still have a chance. We lost one match, but there are still two left. The next one is crucial for us,” he said.

The team’s preparation has been hampered by the absence of several key players. Veteran Mushfiqur Rahim was ruled out with a finger injury, while Litton Das is also unavailable due to illness. Mehidy expressed sympathy for Mushfiqur’s injury but backed Jaker Ali to make the most of his opportunity.

Despite the setbacks, Mehidy remains optimistic about the team’s chances. “We are preparing accordingly, figuring out how to gain momentum on this ground,” he said. “If we can perform well in the next match, we can still win the series.”

With two matches remaining, Bangladesh will be looking to turn the tide and salvage the series against a confident Afghan team. The next ODI will be a crucial encounter for both sides.
