**ABU DHABI, UAE** – Paul Waring of England stormed to a five-stroke lead at the Abu Dhabi Championship, setting a new European Tour record with a remarkable 11-under 61 in the second round.

Waring, ranked 229th in the world, capped off a bogey-free round with a stunning birdie on the 18th hole, hitting a 3-wood from 260 yards to within four feet of the cup. This breathtaking performance established a new 36-hole scoring record for the European Tour, leaving him at 19-under par for the tournament.

The Englishman’s previous round, a 64, also set a course record at the Yas Links. His second-round performance included nine birdies and an eagle, making him the clear frontrunner heading into the weekend.

Chasing Waring in second place at 14-under are Tommy Fleetwood (England), Johannes Veerman (USA), Niklas Norgaard (Denmark), and Thorbjorn Olesen (Denmark).

Rory McIlroy, who is aiming for his sixth Race to Dubai title this week, stumbled with a triple bogey on the 17th hole in his second round of 67. He now sits nine strokes behind the leader.
