Sat Nov 09 04:07:00 UTC 2024: ## Olympic Champion Neeraj Chopra Heads to South Africa for Pre-Season Training
**Johannesburg, South Africa:** Two-time Olympic medalist and star Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will be heading to South Africa in late November for a month-long training camp in preparation for the upcoming competition season. The 26-year-old athlete will spend 31 days in Potchefstroom, a city known for its high-altitude training facilities, honing his skills for the upcoming year.
Chopra’s training will be fully funded by the Indian Ministry of Sports, covering his accommodation, meals, and training expenses, as well as the travel expenses for his physiotherapist.
This will not be Chopra’s first time training in Potchefstroom. He has previously used the facilities in preparation for both the Tokyo and Paris Olympics, and even competed in a tournament there in January 2020.
The move comes after a challenging season for Chopra, who battled a thigh injury throughout the year. The injury impacted his performance at both the Paris Olympics and the Diamond League Final, and prompted him to seek medical advice to determine if surgery was needed.
However, Chopra recently dismissed concerns about the injury, stating that he is fully committed to improving his technique and getting ready for the next season. He also confirmed that he has recently parted ways with his German coach, Claus Bartonietz, who cited family commitments for the decision.
With his sights set on a successful 2024 season, Chopra’s training in Potchefstroom is expected to be a crucial step in his preparations.
