Fri Nov 08 22:45:15 UTC 2024: ## Jabalpur Faces Surge in Respiratory Illnesses Amidst Fluctuating Weather and Air Pollution
**Jabalpur, November 7, 2024:** Jabalpur residents are experiencing a spike in respiratory illnesses, including colds, coughs, and flu, due to fluctuating weather patterns and worsening air quality. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported alarmingly high air quality index (AQI) levels in the city, with Madhatal reaching 210, Suhaghi at 266, and Gupteshwar peaking at 296 on Wednesday – more than double the levels recorded just last Sunday.
The rising AQI has triggered an increase in respiratory problems, with citizens seeking medical attention at both government hospitals and private clinics. Local physicians are witnessing a surge in patients exhibiting typical symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, sore throat, and watery eyes.
Dr. R.K. Choudhary, a medicine specialist at the district hospital, emphasized the importance of prompt medical attention for these ailments. “The changing weather is causing a lot of people to experience colds, flu, and viral infections. It is crucial to seek treatment early on,” he advised.
Experts are warning that the fluctuating temperature – cold mornings and evenings followed by warm afternoons – can exacerbate health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations like the elderly, children, diabetic patients, hypertensive individuals, and those with pre-existing respiratory conditions.
The current weather conditions are also increasing the frequency of asthma attacks. Dr. Choudhary suggests that individuals with pre-existing lung conditions, smokers, and those working in dusty environments should exercise extra caution.
To mitigate the health impacts of the changing weather and air pollution, experts recommend:
* **Wearing masks to avoid inhaling polluted air.**
* **Avoiding crowded places.**
* **Wearing warm clothes during morning and evening hours.**
* **Drinking plenty of fluids.**
* **Including green leafy vegetables in your diet.**
* **Avoiding direct exposure to cold weather, especially during the early stages of the season.**
The elderly, in particular, are urged to be particularly vigilant during this transition period. While it may seem trivial, ignoring early cold symptoms can lead to more serious complications later.
