Fri Nov 08 14:00:35 UTC 2024: ## Chief Justice Chandrachud Bids Farewell, Justice Khanna Takes the Helm

**New Delhi:** Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud bid farewell to the Supreme Court on Friday, November 10th, after a tenure marked by progressive judgments and a youthful energy that captivated both India and the world.

He was warmly embraced by his successor, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, who will take charge on Monday, November 11th. Justice Khanna described his predecessor’s tenure as revolutionary, adding with a smile, “He has made my task easy because of the changes he brought about, and tough because I cannot walk up to him. He will be sorely missed.”

Justice Khanna, whose tenure will last just over six months before he demits office on May 13th, 2025, also noted Chief Justice Chandrachud’s remarkable youthful appearance. “His youthfulness is not only known here but also abroad. In Australia, many people asked me how old he was,” he said.

Chief Justice Chandrachud, known for his accessibility and connection with the public, reflected on his final day, saying, “There is no greater feeling than being able to serve those in need, people I never knew or met. I won’t be able to deliver justice from tomorrow, but I am content.”

Lawyers and members of the bar gathered to pay tribute to the outgoing Chief Justice, hailing him as a “rock star of the judiciary.” Chief Justice Chandrachud leaves behind a legacy of significant judgments, including those that overturned two verdicts made by his father, former Chief Justice YV Chandrachud.
