Fri Nov 08 21:12:00 UTC 2024: ## Meena Brothers Face Off in Dausa Bypoll as BJP Seeks to Salvage Reputation

**Dausa, Rajasthan:** The upcoming bypoll in the Dausa Assembly constituency on November 13 has become a high-stakes battle for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), as the party attempts to salvage its reputation following a string of electoral setbacks. The contest sees veteran BJP leader Kirodi Lal Meena, who recently resigned from the Rajasthan Cabinet, backing his brother Jagmohan Meena, the BJP candidate.

Jagmohan Meena faces a formidable challenge from Congress candidate Deendayal Bairwa, a Dalit leader. Bairwa is capitalizing on the support of Congress leader Sachin Pilot, who has been actively campaigning in the area, highlighting the BJP’s perceived indifference to farmers and the agrarian crisis. Pilot has declared that the bypoll will be a referendum on the BJP government’s performance and the future of Rajasthan’s politics.

Kirodi Lal Meena’s decision to support his brother has drawn scrutiny, especially after the BJP’s poor showing in the recent Lok Sabha elections. His own reputation has taken a hit since he stepped down as Minister, accepting responsibility for the BJP’s defeat in four of the seven seats under his charge. However, BJP supporters believe his popularity among the Meena and Gujjar communities will secure victory for his brother.

The Congress, meanwhile, is confident that Bairwa’s Dalit identity, combined with support from Muslims and Other Backward Classes, will tip the scales in their favour. The outcome of the bypoll will be a crucial test for both parties, as they prepare for the upcoming Assembly elections.
