**Durban, South Africa:** South African batsman Heinrich Klaasen etched his name in the record books by hitting his 100th six of the year during the first T20I against India in Durban on Saturday. While he only scored 25 runs off 22 balls in the match, his achievement makes him the fourth player to reach this landmark in a single year.
The only other players to have achieved this feat are all West Indians. Chris Gayle achieved this milestone in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2017. Nicholas Pooran also reached the 100-six mark in 2024. And all-rounder Andrew Russel achieved the same feat in 2019.
However, despite Klaasen’s milestone, India dominated the match, securing a resounding victory by 61 runs. The Indian team posted a formidable target of 203 runs, thanks to a blistering century from opener Sanju Samson (107). South Africa was unable to chase the target, being bowled out for 141 runs in 17.5 overs.
While Klaasen was the top scorer for the Proteas, India’s spinners Ravi Bishnoi and Varun Chakravarthy were the main architects of their win, taking 3 wickets each. Avesh Khan (2 wickets) and Arshdeep Singh (1 wicket) also contributed significantly.
This victory gives India a 1-0 lead in the four-match series.
