**Mumbai, India -** Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath has been recognized as the youngest philanthropist on the EdelGive-Hurun India Philanthropy List 2024. The 34-year-old entrepreneur donated a significant Rs 120 crore through his Rainmatter Foundation, securing a spot among India’s top philanthropists.
Kamath and his brother Nitin Kamath (45) ranked 15th on the list of individuals who donated over Rs 100 crore, joining industry giants like Gautam Adani and Shiv Nadar.
The report highlights a surge in philanthropy across India, with a 55% increase in donations over the past two years. A total of 203 philanthropists contributed Rs 8,783 crore, with education being the most prominent cause, receiving Rs 3,680 crore from 123 individuals. Shiv Nadar & Family emerged as the top donors in this category, contributing Rs 1,936 crore.
The Kamath brothers also featured among the top donors in the environment and sustainability category, donating Rs 42 crore.
The report reveals a significant increase in large-scale donations. The number of philanthropists donating over Rs 100 crore annually increased tenfold to 18. The list also saw a 125% rise in individuals donating over Rs 50 crore, reaching 30. Additionally, 61 philanthropists donated over Rs 20 crore, marking a 128% increase from five years ago.
Mumbai continues to be the leading city for philanthropy, accounting for 30% of the list, followed by New Delhi (19%) and Bengaluru (9%).
The report also indicates a surge in self-made philanthropists, with 109 new individuals joining the list – a 43% increase from last year.
Beyond his philanthropic endeavors, Nikhil Kamath remains active in the investment world. In a recent LinkedIn post, he called for innovators in the field of nuclear power to connect with him, indicating his interest in exploring new technological advancements.
