**Mumbai, India:** In a stark departure from his BJP ally, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has publicly denounced the “Batoge toh katoge” (If we divide, we will be cut) slogan used by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a key BJP campaigner for the upcoming state elections.
Pawar, who recently switched allegiance from the NCP to the BJP, criticized the slogan, emphasizing that “all castes should unite and think about India, they should think about Maharashtra.” He argued that divisive rhetoric hinders development and urged for a return to Maharashtra’s historical tradition of inclusivity, citing the philosophies of Shivaji, Shahu, Phule, and Ambedkar.
He further accused the BJP of employing a “80-20 voter strategy,” which he claimed marginalizes minority voices. In contrast, he lauded the inclusive politics of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, highlighting his efforts to unite diverse groups.
“Our country is so vast, and such thinking resonates with our youth, who are active on social media, constantly seeking new information and forming their opinions,” Pawar said.
Echoing Prime Minister Modi’s “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” slogan, Pawar stressed the importance of unity for development.
However, when asked about potential political realignment after the elections, Pawar evaded a direct answer, stating that their focus is on forming a Mahayuti government and maximizing seats.
Addressing speculation about family discord, particularly concerning the Baramati constituency where his nephew is contesting against him, Pawar dismissed any notion of conflict, stating that “everyone has the right to contest elections.”
The Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, with vote counting on November 23.
