Fri Nov 08 16:40:15 UTC 2024: ## Deve Gowda Fires Back at Congress, Says Family’s Tears Stem from Understanding Poverty

**Pandavapura, Karnataka (November 8, 2024):** Former Prime Minister and JD(S) national president H.D. Deve Gowda has vehemently refuted Congress taunts about his family’s emotional displays, stating their tears are a testament to their understanding of poverty and suffering.

Speaking to the press in Pandavapura on Friday, Mr. Gowda said, “Our family has inherited tears because we’ve risen from poverty. When a farmer is in trouble, we weep.” His statement was a direct response to barbs from Congress leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and former Bengaluru Rural MP D.K. Suresh, who have mocked the family for shedding tears in public.

Mr. Gowda further criticized Mr. Shivakumar, alleging that the Deputy Chief Minister, who now heads the Congress party, had once worked for underworld don Kotwal Ramachandra.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has also joined the fray, accusing NDA candidate Nikhil Kumaraswamy of “continuing the family’s tradition of weeping” in the Channapatna Assembly byelection. Mr. Siddaramaiah has also questioned the silence of Mr. Gowda’s family regarding sexual assault cases allegedly involving former MP Prajwal Revanna.

Despite these attacks, Mr. Gowda declared that he will not rest until he ousts the Congress government from power. He emphasized his understanding of the plight of farmers and the poor, contrasting it with what he perceives as the Congress’s lack of empathy.
