**Madurai, November 8, 2024:** Water levels in both the Mullaperiyar and Vaigai dams remained stable on Friday, with moderate inflow and outflow reported. The Mullaperiyar dam recorded a water level of 124.75 feet, which is below the maximum permissible level of 142 feet. The dam received an inflow of 763 cusecs and discharged 1,100 cusecs.
The Vaigai dam also showed stable water levels at 64.86 feet, below its maximum capacity of 71 feet. The dam had an inflow of 1,471 cusecs and discharged 1,199 cusecs. The combined storage in the Periyar credit was reported at 4,547.39 mcft.
Light rainfall was recorded across the region in the 24 hours ending at 6 a.m. on Friday. The highest rainfall was recorded at Sothupparai dam with 8.6 mm, followed by Sathiyar dam at 7.4 mm. Madurai received 5.4 mm of rainfall, while Melur and Elumalai recorded 4 mm each. Chittampatti received 3.2 mm, Kallandiri 3 mm, Andipatti 2.3 mm, Peranai 2 mm, Mullaperiyar dam 1.8 mm, Viraganur 0.4 mm and Vaigai dam 0.2 mm.
