Fri Nov 08 17:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Swiatek Dominates Kasatkina in WTA Finals, But Misses Semifinals Due to Unexpected Twist

**RIYADH, Saudi Arabia** – World No. 2 Iga Swiatek showcased her dominance on Thursday, dismantling Daria Kasatkina 6-1, 6-0 in a match that took just 51 minutes. However, despite the dominant display, Swiatek’s journey to the WTA Finals semifinals was cut short due to a surprising turn of events.

Originally, Swiatek’s path to the semifinals depended on her winning her match and Coco Gauff defeating Barbora Krejcikova. But when Jessica Pegula withdrew from the tournament due to a knee injury, Swiatek’s match became irrelevant for the semifinal qualification.

“Um,” a stunned Swiatek remarked, “you mean it didn’t matter? What?”

The Polish star, who was unaware of the rule change, had no idea her match held no bearing on her semifinal fate. “Honestly, I don’t think it matters. Like we go out on court to win every match anyway,” she stated.

Unfortunately, Krejcikova’s straight-set victory over Gauff ended Swiatek’s hopes of reaching the final four. Had she advanced, Swiatek would have become the youngest player to reach three consecutive WTA Finals semifinals since Maria Sharapova, who achieved this feat from 2004 to 2007.

Despite the disappointment, Swiatek’s performance against Kasatkina was a testament to her skill and determination. She dominated every aspect of the match, winning an impressive 51 out of 74 points and breaking Kasatkina’s serve five times.

Swiatek now sets her sights on finishing the year atop the PIF WTA Rankings. The Wuhan Open champion has proven her ability to conquer any challenge, and her relentless pursuit of the No. 1 spot promises an exciting end to the season.
