Fri Nov 08 17:05:04 UTC 2024: ## Abhishek Sharma Faces Do-or-Die Situation in South Africa T20I Series
**New Delhi, India -** Young batsman Abhishek Sharma faces a crucial test in the upcoming T20I series against South Africa, with his place in the Indian squad potentially on the line.
Sharma, who made his international debut in July after a stellar IPL season, has struggled to find his footing at the international level. While he scored a century against Zimbabwe earlier this year, his recent performances have been underwhelming, with only 49 runs in his last four T20I matches.
The upcoming series provides Sharma with a vital opportunity to prove his worth, as he is set to open the innings alongside Sanju Samson due to the absence of regular openers Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who are playing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Former cricketer Aakash Chopra has highlighted the pressure facing Sharma, noting that Jaiswal and Gill will return for the subsequent T20I series against England. Chopra believes that a poor showing in the South Africa series could lead to Sharma’s exclusion from the team.
“I think India have two or three big questions,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel. “The pressure will be on Abhishek Sharma and a little bit on Sanju Samson. However, since Yashasvi (Jaiswal) will come and Shubman Gill will come at some stage, you feel you should score a lot of runs whenever you get a chance to open. So it’s important for him but it’s do or die for Abhishek Sharma because after this when the England T20I series will be played at home, you will definitely be dropped if you don’t score runs here,” he added.
The South Africa series presents Abhishek Sharma with a chance to solidify his place in the Indian T20I squad. However, failure to perform could result in a swift departure from the team.
