Fri Nov 08 12:50:00 UTC 2024: ## Saints Fire Head Coach Dennis Allen After Seven Straight Losses

**NEW ORLEANS, LA -** The New Orleans Saints have fired head coach Dennis Allen after the team lost its seventh consecutive game on Sunday. Special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi has been named the interim head coach.

The Saints started the season strong, winning their first two games by a combined 62 points. However, they have struggled mightily since then, losing seven straight. Allen, who took over as head coach in 2022 following Sean Payton’s departure, compiled a 18-25 record during his time in New Orleans.

“This decision is something that I felt we needed to make at this time,” said Saints owner Gayle Benson in a statement. “I wish nothing but the best in the future for Dennis and his family. He will always be considered in the highest regard by me and everyone within our organization.”

Rizzi, who has experience in similar situations, expressed his determination to turn the team around. “We need everybody on board and the only way I know how to do it is to fight and work out of it. So that’s what we’re going to do,” Rizzi said.

The team will also reevaluate their situation moving forward. Defensive coordinator Joe Woods will take over play-calling duties, and quarterback Derek Carr will remain the starter.

Despite injuries to key players, including Carr, the Saints’ struggles have been evident on both sides of the ball. Their defense ranks last in yards per play and per game, while the offense has struggled to score consistently.

The firing of Allen marks the Saints’ first midseason coaching change since 1985. The team is now looking to turn the season around and regain the winning formula that has characterized their recent history.
