Fri Nov 08 09:25:33 UTC 2024: ## J&K Assembly in Chaos as BJP Protests Special Status Resolution
**Srinagar, November 8, 2024:** The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly witnessed a third consecutive day of chaos on Friday as BJP MLAs continued their protest against the special status resolution passed earlier this week.
The uproar began as BJP members chanted slogans like “Pakistani agenda nahi chalega” (No Pakistani agenda will succeed) and stormed the well of the House. Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather was forced to order the eviction of 12 opposition MLAs, including Sheikh Khurshid from Langate.
Following the eviction, 11 more BJP MLAs walked out of the Assembly in protest. This comes after two days of heated debate sparked by the resolution passed on Tuesday, which reaffirmed the importance of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and demanded its restoration.
The resolution, moved by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, expressed concern over the removal of Article 370 and called for dialogue with elected representatives from the region. It emphasized that any process for restoration should safeguard both national unity and the legitimate aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The resolution has been met with fierce opposition from the BJP, who have accused the opposition of pushing a “Pakistani agenda” and have vowed to disrupt Assembly proceedings until the resolution is withdrawn.
The situation remains tense with no immediate end in sight for the ongoing standoff.
