**Abu Dhabi, UAE** – Four-time Major winner Rory McIlroy believes former President Donald Trump could play a role in resolving the ongoing feud between the PGA Tour and the Saudi-backed LIV Golf, citing Trump’s connections and influence.

Speaking ahead of the HSBC Abu Dhabi Championship, McIlroy acknowledged Trump’s stated confidence in brokering a deal in “15 minutes” and even alluded to the involvement of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who Trump considers a “smartest man in the world.” However, McIlroy also conceded that “as the President of the United States again, he’s probably got bigger things to focus on than golf.”

The PGA Tour and LIV Golf reached a “framework agreement” in June 2023 aimed at unifying the sport, but a complete resolution remains elusive. Negotiations between the US-based circuit and the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), which backs LIV Golf, continue with the initial deadline extended into 2024.

Trump himself has expressed confidence in his ability to resolve the issue, stating on the “Let’s Go!” podcast that he could “certainly help” and “get it done.” He has previously welcomed the partnership between the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and LIV Golf, calling it a “big, beautiful, and glamorous deal for the wonderful world of golf.”

While McIlroy sees a potential role for Trump, he ultimately believes the former President’s priorities lie elsewhere. The ongoing negotiations between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf continue, with no clear resolution on the horizon.
