Fri Nov 08 00:13:12 UTC 2024: ## J&K Assembly Sees Fresh Push for Article 370 Restoration

**Srinagar, November 8, 2024:** A group of Jammu and Kashmir legislators, including members from the PDP, JKPC, and AIP, have submitted a new resolution to the Assembly demanding the reinstatement of Article 370 and 35A. The resolution condemns the “unconstitutional and unilateral abrogation” of these articles, which stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special status in 2019.

The resolution, signed by PDP MLA Fayyaz Mir, JKPC President Sajad Lone, AIP legislator Sheikh Khursheed, and independent MLA Engineer Rashid, calls for the complete reversal of the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019. It urges the Union government to “respect the constitutional, democratic sanctity” of J&K by restoring all special provisions and guarantees to preserve the region’s unique identity, culture, and political autonomy.

This move comes as a direct challenge to the National Conference (NC), which had previously passed a resolution on the issue. The NC has criticized the latest resolution, calling it invalid due to its limited signatories and claiming that the previously passed resolution was already comprehensive.

The debate over Article 370 has remained a contentious issue in Jammu and Kashmir, with the region’s political parties consistently advocating for its restoration. This latest resolution further underscores the ongoing tension between the Centre and the regional parties over the future of Jammu and Kashmir.
