Thu Nov 07 20:35:22 UTC 2024: ## Cancer Survivor, Ironman, and Author: Delhi Police Officer Nidhin Valsan Overcomes Adversity

**New Delhi, India** – Delhi Police DCP (Outer North), Nidhin Valsan, has overcome a life-altering battle with cancer, becoming an Ironman athlete and author. Diagnosed with Stage 4 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2020, Valsan, a 2012-batch IPS officer, faced nine rounds of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.

Despite the challenges, Valsan remained determined to live life to the fullest. In 2022, he completed the Goa Ironman Triathlon, a grueling test of endurance that included a 1.9km swim, 90km cycle ride, and 21.1km run. This achievement, achieved in a time of 8:03:53 hours, became a testament to his resilience and a source of inspiration for others battling cancer.

“My goal was to celebrate my recovery and send a message to anyone touched by cancer that effort is our weapon and hard work is the victory,” said Valsan.

He further channeled his experience into writing his memoir, “Cancerman to Ironman: A Police Officer’s Journey of Arresting Illness,” published by Pan Macmillan India this past August. The book details his journey, offering raw and candid insights into his fight against the disease, the strength he found in positivity, and the unwavering support he received from his family, friends, and colleagues.

Even after completing his manuscript, Valsan faced another battle with cancer earlier this year, requiring three more rounds of chemotherapy and another bone marrow transplant. Yet, he persevered and returned to his role at the Delhi Police, determined to live his life to the fullest.

“Everything I did was driven by my will power. I have understood hope is the only strategy,” said Valsan, a father of two. “It has been overwhelming, but easier for me than for my aged parents, my wife and children.”

Valsan’s story serves as a powerful reminder of the human spirit’s ability to overcome adversity. He stands as an example of hope, resilience, and the strength found in pursuing one’s goals even in the face of immense challenges.
