Fri Nov 08 02:46:23 UTC 2024: ## Babar Azam Cleaned Bowled by Zampa as Pakistan Struggle in First ODI against Australia

**Melbourne, Australia:** Pakistan’s tour of Australia got off to a shaky start as they were sent into bat first and struggled against a strong Australian bowling attack in the first ODI at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Monday.

Former captain Babar Azam registered an unwanted record, being dismissed for the first time in five years against a spinner in ODIs. He was clean bowled by Adam Zampa after putting on a 39-run stand with new captain Mohammad Rizwan.

Pakistan lost their openers early, but Babar and Rizwan revived the innings briefly. However, after Babar’s departure, wickets continued to fall, leaving Pakistan in a precarious position at 124/6 after 33 overs. Rizwan was the top scorer with 44 runs.

Meanwhile, Australian paceman Mitchell Starc reached a significant milestone, surpassing legendary Brett Lee to become the fastest bowler to reach 100 ODI wickets in Australia. Starc achieved this feat in 54 innings, compared to Lee’s 55. He also became the sixth player to reach the milestone in Australia.

Pat Cummins led the Australian side in his return to international cricket after missing the T20 World Cup in June. Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head are on paternity leave for the three-match series.

This series is a crucial preparation for Australia ahead of next year’s Champions Trophy, as they only have one more ODI scheduled before the tournament. Pakistan, who will host the Champions Trophy, is undergoing a period of transition with a new captain and several new faces in the squad.

The first ODI saw Saim Ayub and Irfan Khan making their ODI debuts for Pakistan.
