The four-day long Chhath Puja festival, a major celebration of faith and tradition, culminated today, November 8th, with the “Usha Arghya” – an offering to the rising sun. The festival, which began on November 5th, has been observed throughout India, but is particularly significant in Bihar, Jharkhand, and parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
The festival, which sees devotees fasting for the duration of the celebration, is marked by rituals including “Nहाय खाय” (a cleansing bath), “खरना” (a special meal), and the “Sांझ अर्घ्य” (evening offering to the setting sun), culminating in the “Usha Arghya”.
Devotees offer prayers and traditional offerings of fruits, ‘thekua’ (a sweet delicacy), and ‘kheer’ (a rice pudding) to the Sun God, seeking blessings for prosperity, good health, and wellbeing.
The festival embodies the spirit of gratitude and hope, urging devotees to connect with nature and seek blessings from the celestial bodies. The celebrations have seen families and communities come together, creating a vibrant atmosphere of joy and devotion.
