Fri Nov 08 15:29:56 UTC 2024: ## GVMC Commissioner Inspects Kapuluppada Biogas Plant and Dumping Yard

**Visakhapatnam, November 8, 2024:** Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner P. Sampath Kumar conducted an inspection of the Kapuluppada dumping yard and biogas plant on Friday. At the biogas plant, Mr. Kumar inquired about its functioning, learning that the facility has a capacity of 850 to 1,000 kg per day. The plant utilizes municipal wet waste, including food and vegetable waste collected from hotels, restaurants, and canteens. Mr. Kumar suggested a ramp be installed for vehicle transportation and also toured the compost pits.

During his inspection of the dumping yard, Mr. Kumar addressed the presence of large garbage heaps. He instructed staff to expedite the transfer of waste to the waste-to-energy plant. The Commissioner engaged with ragpickers, urging them to wear gloves and boots for safety. He also instructed the Engineering Department to build a material recovery facility centre for the ragpickers.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Kumar, accompanied by Ward 4 Corporator D. Yedukondala Rao, inspected Timmapuram. Residents raised concerns about drinking water supply issues, the need for additional water tanks and borewells, as well as malfunctioning street lights. Mr. Kumar assured residents that these issues would be addressed.
