**Bengaluru, India -** The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is taking proactive measures to enhance its cyber security by establishing a dedicated Security Operations Centre (SOC). This move comes in response to the increasing sophistication of cyberattacks, aiming to safeguard the city’s metro rail systems against potential digital breaches.
The BMRCL recently announced a tender to set up the SOC, which will operate for three years. The centre will provide comprehensive visibility and security across the entire BMRCL network, encompassing 66 stations and infrastructure such as CCTV surveillance and IT assets. This includes monitoring approximately 13,200 cameras installed throughout the stations, with four cameras in each coach.
The SOC will collect logs from all connected devices, enabling proactive threat monitoring and swift response. A senior BMRCL official highlighted, “The SOC will provide real-time monitoring, threat detection, and response mechanisms, ensuring the safety and security of our IT and CCTV networks. This system will support at least 1,000 devices, covering a range of IT assets, including desktops, laptops, servers, firewalls, and routers, as well as CCTV equipment deployed across the metro’s infrastructure.”
IT security professionals will be constantly monitoring and safeguarding the metro network from cyber threats. They will utilize advanced tools for threat detection and automated incident response, minimizing reaction times. The SOC will not only detect threats but also enable predictive security by analyzing patterns to anticipate future risks.
The establishment of this dedicated SOC demonstrates BMRCL’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Bengaluru’s vital transportation network in the face of evolving cyber threats.
