**New Delhi:** The BJP in Jammu and Kashmir has condemned the passage of a resolution in the Assembly seeking the restoration of special status for the region, calling it a “fraud” and a “joke” of democracy. The party alleges the ruling National Conference (NC) has compromised the integrity of the House by questioning a decision of the Indian Parliament and the Supreme Court.

BJP MLA R.S. Pathania labeled the resolution, passed by voice vote on Wednesday, as “a piece of scrap” that would be discarded even by a “peon or a clerk”. He accused the NC of “kneeling before pro-Pakistan and pro-separatist narrative” and warned that the BJP would not allow such “illegal” resolutions in the assembly.

The BJP also criticized the assembly’s handling of a brawl that erupted between BJP MLAs and marshals after Awami Ittehad Party MLA Sheikh Khursheed entered the well of the House with a banner demanding the restoration of Articles 370 and 35A. The party blamed the speaker for allowing the banner and questioned the security checks in place.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Smriti Irani labeled the resolution as an “attempt to divide India” by the INDIA bloc parties. She accused the NC and its allies of “disregarding and insulting” the Parliament’s decision to abrogate Article 370 and the Supreme Court’s subsequent ruling.

Irani asserted that the abrogation of Article 370 will not be reversed and that the “INDI alliance” will not succeed in their efforts to divide India. She also questioned the Congress’s stand on the issue, asking if the party supports terrorism and opposes the development of Jammu and Kashmir.

The BJP’s strong reaction highlights the ongoing tensions between the party and the NC, which have been exacerbated by the issue of Article 370. The resolution has further escalated the political battle in the region, with the BJP vowing to oppose any attempt to question the decision of the Parliament.
