Fri Nov 08 14:48:02 UTC 2024: ## Rahul Gandhi’s MP Fund Utilization in Wayanad: Fact Check Debunks False Claims

**Wayanad, Kerala:** Rumors circulating on social media claiming that former MP Rahul Gandhi spent only 5 crore rupees of his allocated 17 crore MP fund in the Wayanad constituency during his tenure have been debunked as baseless.

The claims were particularly prominent after Priyanka Gandhi, Rahul’s sister, announced her candidacy for the upcoming by-election in Wayanad.

A fact-check investigation by Newsmeter revealed that the claims are unfounded. Rahul Gandhi, who represented Wayanad in the 17th Lok Sabha from 2019 to 2024, has actually allocated more than 17 crores towards various projects in the constituency.

The investigation, based on data from the MPLADS website, found that out of the 17 crore allocated to Rahul Gandhi, he has recommended projects worth over 20 crores, of which 8.78 crores have already been spent. This data shows that his fund utilization rate surpasses 123%.

T. Siddique, MLA of Kalpetta, affirmed that the circulating claims are false. He emphasized that the Wayanad constituency encompasses not just Wayanad district but also parts of Malappuram and Kozhikode districts. He further pointed out that Rahul Gandhi has been a prominent figure in recommending projects far exceeding the allocated funds.

The investigation also revealed that a video explanation by T. Siddique on this topic, posted on Facebook in January 2024, refuted similar allegations circulating then. Manorama Online also published a video confirming Siddique’s explanation to the media.

Therefore, the claim that Rahul Gandhi spent only 5 crores of his allocated 17 crore MP fund in Wayanad is baseless and misleading.
