Thu Nov 07 11:19:21 UTC 2024: ## Congress Accused of Trying to “Rewrite” Indian Constitution, BJP Claims
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Congress party of attempting to “rewrite” the Indian Constitution, claiming that a red Constitution diary distributed by the Congress in Maharashtra contains blank pages. The BJP alleges that this signifies a plan to erase the Constitution and its laws, citing Rahul Gandhi’s recent prediction about the end of reservations as evidence.
The BJP’s Maharashtra unit posted videos on X (formerly Twitter) highlighting the blank diary, with BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya calling Congress leader Rahul Gandhi the “universally accepted expert on lies.”
The accusation comes ahead of the Maharashtra state elections, where the Congress and BJP are engaged in a tight race. While the Congress relies on its five guarantees to repeat its strong Lok Sabha performance, the BJP, buoyed by its victory in Haryana, aims to secure a second term for the Mahayuti government.
The elections are scheduled for November 20, with results announced on November 23.
This accusation adds another layer to the already heated political climate in Maharashtra. The Congress has yet to respond to the BJP’s claims.
