**Kalaburagi, November 7, 2024:** Dr. Syed Shah Khusro Hussaini, the Sajjada Nasheen of the revered Hazrath Khaja Bande Nawaz Dargah in Kalaburagi, Karnataka, passed away on November 6, leaving behind a legacy of scholarship, education, and Sufi teachings. He was 79.

Dr. Hussaini, who succeeded his father as the head of the dargah in 2007, was a respected figure in the Muslim community and beyond. He held a Master’s degree in Islamic Studies from McGill University in Canada and a PhD from Belford University, USA. He was also a prominent advocate for Islamic education and served as the vice-president of the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board.

Known for his deep understanding of Sufism, Dr. Hussaini dedicated his life to promoting Islamic teachings and education. He spearheaded significant changes within the Khaja Education Society, expanding existing institutions and establishing new ones. Notably, he was instrumental in establishing the Khaja Bandanawaz Institute of Medical Sciences in 2000 and, with great determination, founded the Khaja Banda Nawaz University in 2018.

Dr. Hussaini’s contributions to education earned him the prestigious Karnataka Rajyotsava Award in 2017. His passing has been met with widespread grief, with condolences pouring in from across India. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and other political leaders have expressed their sorrow at his demise.

Dr. Hussaini’s funeral prayer (Namaz-e-Janaza) is scheduled for the evening of November 7, followed by burial within the dargah premises.
