Thu Nov 07 07:34:12 UTC 2024: ## Trump and Modi Pledge to Strengthen US-India Ties in Post-Election Call

**Washington D.C./New Delhi:** In a sign of continued strong relations, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a phone call with newly re-elected US President Donald Trump on Wednesday evening to congratulate him on his victory.

Modi, who described Trump as a “friend” on X (formerly Twitter), expressed his eagerness to work closely with the President to further strengthen US-India ties across sectors like technology, defense, energy, space, and others. Trump, in turn, affirmed his friendship with Modi and India, stating that Modi was one of the first world leaders he contacted after his win.

The two leaders share a close working relationship built during Trump’s first term, highlighted by events like the 2019 “Howdy, Modi!” rally in Houston, Texas, attended by over 50,000 people.

Trump’s re-election marks a significant political event, making him the first president since Grover Cleveland in 1897 to win two non-consecutive terms. He secured victory over Democratic challenger Kamala Harris, with the Republican party also gaining control of the US Senate and leading in the House of Representatives race.

In his victory speech, Trump thanked his supporters, emphasizing a commitment to healing the country and securing its borders.

Modi joins other world leaders like French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in congratulating Trump on his win.
