**Shivamogga, November 6, 2024:** B.Y. Raghavendra, BJP Lok Sabha member from Shivamogga, has accused the Congress government in Karnataka of appeasing a particular community by allowing the Waqf Board to take over properties belonging to farmers and religious institutions.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Mr. Raghavendra alleged that the government is actively instructing officials to change land records, designating properties as Waqf despite their rightful owners. This, he claims, is leading to unrest among communities and is a blatant misuse of power.
Mr. Raghavendra further criticized the government’s silence on the Union government’s proposed amendment to the Waqf Act, highlighting that opposition parties have actively avoided participating in discussions surrounding the bill. He asserted that the BJP will continue to oppose any attempt by the Waqf Board to take over private properties and urged the government to stop issuing notices and making changes to land records.
In addition to these accusations, Mr. Raghavendra alleged widespread corruption within the State Excise Department. He claimed that liquor sellers have complained to the Governor about the role of money in officers’ postings, alleging that Excise Minister R.B. Thimmapura and his family are profiting from transfers within the department.
