Tue Nov 05 20:18:10 UTC 2024: ## Kerala Human Rights Commission Orders Probe into Tour Operator’s Failure to Provide Accommodation for Students
**KOCHI, November 6, 2024:** The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) has ordered an investigation into a recent incident where a tour operator failed to provide accommodation for 135 students on a school trip to Kodaikanal.
The students, from SNDP Higher Secondary School in Aluva, were transported in three buses to Kodaikanal for a picnic, but upon arrival, discovered no accommodation had been arranged. This forced them to spend a significant portion of the night in the buses before being transported to Ooty.
The KSHRC, acting on newspaper reports of the incident, has directed the Transport Commissioner to instruct the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) to conduct the investigation. The RTO must submit a report to the Commission within three weeks. Additionally, the RTO will determine if the tour operator’s negligence warrants penalties, including potential cancellation of their permit or license.
