Tue Nov 05 19:20:06 UTC 2024: ## BRS Leader Urges Telangana CM to Exempt Teachers from Household Survey

**HYDERABAD, November 6, 2024** – Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) senior leader T. Harish Rao has appealed to Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to exempt secondary grade teachers (SGTs) from participating in the upcoming comprehensive household survey, scheduled to begin on Wednesday.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, Mr. Rao expressed concerns about the deployment of 36,559 SGTs and 3,414 headmasters from primary and upper primary schools for the survey. This deployment, he argued, would violate the Right to Education Act and disrupt the learning process.

“The shortened school timings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. would significantly impact the learning environment,” stated Mr. Rao. “Moreover, the RTE Act clearly stipulates that teachers can only be utilized for specific purposes, such as population census, relief duties during natural disasters, and elections. This survey does not fall under these categories.”

He further highlighted the plight of children from underprivileged backgrounds who rely on government schools. “These students’ parents are often engaged in daily wage labor, leaving no one to care for them if they are sent home early,” he added. Mr. Rao urged the government to reconsider the deployment of SGTs and ensure they can fulfill their primary responsibility of educating children.
