Tue Nov 05 17:16:22 UTC 2024: ## Visakhapatnam Police and GVMC Join Forces to Combat Crime and Traffic Woes
**Visakhapatnam, November 05, 2024:** In a bid to tackle rising crime and traffic congestion, the Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner Shankabratha Bagchi and the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner P. Sampath Kumar held a joint review meeting on Tuesday.
The meeting focused on addressing several pressing issues, including the need for functional streetlights and CCTV cameras, increasing road encroachments, and traffic signal problems.
“We need to ensure that all CCTV cameras and streetlights are operational to effectively combat drug-related gangs and other anti-social activities,” stated Commissioner Bagchi. He also expressed concern over the growing number of road encroachments, which are causing traffic bottlenecks.
Responding to these concerns, Mr. Sampath Kumar revealed that the GVMC is actively working on addressing the streetlight issue and has already contacted the responsible agency. He also highlighted the upcoming installation of new streetlights in identified areas lacking sufficient illumination.
Furthermore, Mr. Sampath Kumar assured that CCTV cameras, zebra crossings, and public address systems are being implemented throughout the city.
To combat footpath encroachments, the GVMC Commissioner proposed a joint drive with the police department. He also announced plans to establish vending zones and develop traffic islands to improve traffic flow.
This collaborative effort between the police and GVMC signals a strong commitment to addressing critical public safety and infrastructure issues in Visakhapatnam. The meeting highlighted the importance of interagency cooperation in ensuring a safer and more efficient city for its residents.
