Wed Nov 06 03:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Ricketts Wins Nebraska Senate Special Election, Aims to Focus on Farm Bill, Border Security

**OMAHA, NE** – Former Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts has secured the remaining two years of Ben Sasse’s U.S. Senate term in a special election. The election was held this year due to Sasse’s resignation in 2023 to become president of the University of Florida.

Ricketts was appointed by Governor Jim Pillen to temporarily fill the seat following Sasse’s departure. He previously served as Governor of Nebraska from 2015 to 2023, and also served as Chair of the Republican Governors Association.

Now in the Senate, Ricketts has outlined his priorities, including passing a Farm Bill with additions similar to the SNAP Next Step Act. This act aims to connect SNAP recipients with resources to reduce their reliance on government assistance.

Ricketts also plans to push for improvements in federal government technology to enhance efficiency, and he is committed to passing legislation strengthening border security.

“It’s putting us at risk for drug trafficking,” Ricketts said, referencing the southern border. “We see what’s going on in regard to human trafficking, sex trafficking – it’s just a terrible catastrophe. And of course, the terrorist risk.”

With both Nebraska Senate seats up for grabs in the 2024 election, Ricketts’ victory secures one seat for the Republicans.
