**New Delhi:** The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced, the gateway to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), has undergone significant changes for the 2025 intake. Most notably, the number of attempts for the exam has been increased from two to three, allowing candidates to take the test over three consecutive years.
**Eligibility Criteria:**
* **Age:** Candidates must have been born on or after October 1, 2000. This age limit is relaxed by five years for SC, ST, and PwD candidates.
* **Academic Performance:** Students must have ranked among the top 2,50,000 in the BE/BTech Paper I of JEE Main 2025 across all categories.
* **Class 12:** Candidates should have first appeared for their Class 12 (or equivalent) exams in either 2023, 2024, or 2025 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
* **Prior IIT Admissions:** Candidates who have previously been admitted to an IIT program are ineligible, except for those admitted to an IIT preparatory course in 2024.
**Reservation Policy:**
* The category-wise breakdown of shortlisted candidates remains the same: GEN-EWS (10%), OBC-NCL (27%), SC (15%), ST (7.5%), and the remaining 40.5% open to all.
* A 5% horizontal reservation is available for PwD candidates within each category.
* Following a Supreme Court ruling, OCI/PIO candidates holding their cards as of March 4, 2021, will be treated as Indian nationals for IIT seat allocation but are not eligible for reservation benefits except for OPEN-PwD.
**Important Note:** Candidates who appeared for their Class 12 exams in 2022 or earlier are ineligible for JEE Advanced 2025, irrespective of their results or subjects. However, exceptions are made for candidates whose boards released results for the academic year 2021-22 on or after 21 September 2022.
The updated rules aim to provide greater opportunities for aspiring engineers to pursue their dreams of studying at an IIT. These changes are expected to attract a larger pool of talented candidates and enhance the competitiveness of the JEE Advanced examination.
