Wed Nov 06 03:53:32 UTC 2024: ## FBI Warns of Russian-Linked Bomb Threats on Election Day, But No Credible Threats Found
**Atlanta, November 6, 2024** – The FBI has reported numerous bomb threats targeting polling stations across multiple U.S. states on Election Day, but has confirmed that none of these threats were credible. Authorities believe that many of the threats originated from Russian email domains.
In Georgia, a battleground state, police received 32 bomb threats against voting sites, resulting in the temporary closure of five sites while authorities conducted security checks. Despite the disruption, all affected polling places reopened within 30 minutes.
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, without providing further details, stated that Russia was identified as the source of the bomb threats.
The 2024 U.S. Presidential election has been marked by heightened security concerns, including potential civil unrest, election fraud, and violence against poll workers. Authorities have implemented numerous measures to ensure the safety of voters and election officials, including providing panic buttons for poll workers, deploying special weapons teams, and placing National Guard personnel on standby.
The FBI established a national election command post in Washington to monitor potential threats around the clock throughout Election Week.
The U.S. Capitol Police also arrested a man on Tuesday, November 5, who was carrying a lighter and accelerant and smelled like fuel. The individual was stopped at the Capitol Visitor Center, a location that was targeted by rioters on January 6, 2021. While the man had “papers” he intended to deliver to Congress, it remains unclear whether he planned to harm himself. Police have stated there is no indication that the incident was related to the election.
This incident is not the first time that Russian interference has been suspected during the US election. Earlier on Election Day, officials warned that Russia-linked disinformation campaigns were attempting to spread false claims about fraudulent voting activities in key states to influence the election’s outcome.
