**Kochi, November 5, 2024:** The Kochi City police have apprehended three individuals for allegedly assaulting a police team from Mattancherry and obstructing them from carrying out their duties.

The arrested suspects, identified as Ameer Suhail (24), Arafath (22), and Sanovar (22), were reportedly part of a larger 12-member gang. The incident occurred on the Fort Kochi-Mattancherry border near Kalvathy bridge last Saturday around 11:45 PM.

The police team had received an alert regarding the alleged harassment of foreign women and responded to the scene. Upon arriving, they encountered the accused individuals on the bridge. When questioned about their activities, the accused reportedly exhibited rude behavior, verbally abused the officers, and even physically assaulted them.

According to reports, when the police attempted to detain one of the accused and escort him to their vehicle, the other members of the group allegedly attacked the officers with stones and forcibly freed the detainee.

The police subsequently filed a case against all 12 individuals involved. It has been revealed that the arrested suspects have prior criminal records, including offenses under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, registered by both the Mattancherry and Fort Kochi police stations.

Following this incident, the police have intensified patrols in the Fort Kochi-Mattancherry border areas to ensure public safety and prevent further occurrences of such incidents.
