Tue Nov 05 15:27:59 UTC 2024: ## Thiruvananthapuram to Host Arts Festival for Children in Care Homes

**Thiruvananthapuram, November 5, 2024:** The Kerala State Council for Child Welfare is gearing up to celebrate Children’s Day with a special arts festival, “Thaliru,” for children residing in 61 care homes in Thiruvananthapuram. The two-day festival, scheduled for November 7 and 8, will see over 800 children participating in 17 different competitions, divided into categories for higher secondary, high school, upper primary, and lower primary students.

The competition categories include poetry recitation, light music, mono act, fancy dress, cinematic dance, group song, folk dance, folk songs, patriotic songs, and other literary items. Council General Secretary G.L. Arun Gopi highlighted the festival’s objective: to provide opportunities for children in care homes to showcase their talents, just like their peers.

Adding to the Children’s Day celebrations, a drawing by V. Thanmaya, an eighth-grader from the Government Higher Secondary School in Kannadipparambu, Kannur, has been selected for this year’s Children’s Day stamp. Thanmaya’s artwork, chosen from over 339 entries, depicts the theme of “child-friendly Kerala.” The stamp, to be released by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on November 14, will generate funds for welfare activities in care homes across the state.
