**New Delhi:** Renowned folk singer Sharda Sinha, known as the “Bihar Kokila,” has been admitted to AIIMS Hospital in New Delhi and is currently on ventilator support. The Padma Bhushan awardee, famous for her iconic Chhath Puja song “Pehle Pahil Hum Kayeni,” is in critical condition.
Sharda Sinha’s son, Anshuman Sinha, confirmed the news, stating that her health is deteriorating. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached out to the family and assured them of full support. Reports suggest that Sinha’s condition worsened following the recent demise of her husband, Brij Kishor Sinha.
Born in 1952, Sharda Sinha has been instrumental in popularizing Bihar’s folk music, particularly Bhojpuri, Maithili, and Magadhi. Her captivating “Vivah Geet” (wedding songs) and “Chhath Geet” (Chhath puja songs) have resonated with generations, connecting them to their cultural heritage.
