Tue Nov 05 06:34:11 UTC 2024: ## Kerala Film Producers’ Association Expels Producer Sandra Thomas

**KOCHI, November 5, 2024:** The Kerala Film Producers’ Association (KFPA) has expelled producer Sandra Thomas from its ranks, citing breaches of disciplinary norms. The decision, made at an executive committee meeting on October 28, 2024, follows allegations that Thomas “defamed” committee members with baseless claims and continuously violated association regulations.

Thomas, however, alleges her expulsion is a result of the KFPA’s “anti-women” bias and its failure to protect women members. She maintains the decision reflects a lack of democratic practices, specifically targeting women who speak out against leadership.

The rift between Thomas and the association escalated after she criticized the executive committee’s silence on the Hema Committee report, which highlighted issues faced by women in the Malayalam film industry. She also condemned a September 6th meeting called by the association to discuss these concerns, labeling it an “eyewash.”

Further tensions arose after a complaint filed by a woman producer led to the Ernakulam Central police registering a case against 11 KFPA members on October 10th. This case stems from the Hema Committee report’s findings and involves charges of assault and intentional insult against a woman’s modesty.

Notable recent productions by Ms. Thomas include “Little Hearts” and “Nalla Nilavulla Rathri.”
