Mon Nov 04 15:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Suzuki Unveils First Mass-Production Electric Vehicle: The e Vitara

Suzuki Motor Corporation has unveiled its first-ever mass-production battery electric vehicle (BEV), the e Vitara, in Milan, Italy. The electric SUV is set to hit the market in summer 2025, starting with key regions including India, Japan, and Europe.

The e Vitara is based on the Maruti Suzuki eVX concept, first showcased at the Auto Expo 2023 and later at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2023. Production will begin in spring 2025 at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat-based facility in India.

**Design and Dimensions**

The e Vitara’s design draws inspiration from the eVX concept, featuring a rugged and SUV-ish look with blacked-out elements, hexagonal wheel arches, and a flat roof profile. It boasts a generous size, measuring 4,275 mm long, 1,800 mm wide, and 1,635 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. This makes it comparable in size to the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara but with a longer wheelbase. The e Vitara offers a ground clearance of 180 mm (laden) and comes with two wheel size options: 18-inch and 19-inch.

**Cabin and Features**

While Suzuki remains tight-lipped about the interior, the e Vitara showcases a panoramic glass housing for the instrument cluster and infotainment unit. The cabin features a two-tone dashboard and upholstery, adding a touch of flair. The two-spoke steering wheel, with a flat top and bottom, gives the e Vitara a modern feel.

**Performance and Battery**

The e Vitara will be offered in both single and dual-motor configurations. The base model will feature a 49 kWh battery pack with a single motor, generating 106 kW and 189 Nm of torque. A larger 61 kWh battery pack will be available in both FWD and 4WD layouts. The FWD version boasts 128 kW and 189 Nm, while the 4WD configuration delivers 135 kW and 300 Nm.

**Platform and Range**

The e Vitara is built on the Heartect-e architecture, designed specifically for BEVs. It also incorporates the Allgrip-e system, offering 4WD assistance. The electric 4WD system utilizes two independent eAxles, featuring two motors at the front and rear. This system includes a Trail mode, providing smooth off-road maneuverability by applying brakes to spinning tires and distributing torque to the opposite tire, akin to a limited-slip differential. The Heartect-e platform maximizes battery capacity while offering spacious interiors. While official figures are not yet revealed, Suzuki estimates a real-world range of around 400 km with the 61 kWh battery pack in its single-motor configuration.

The e Vitara is expected to face stiff competition from electric SUVs like the Tata Nexon EV, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra XUV400, MG ZS EV, and the upcoming Hyundai Creta electric SUV. This new offering from Suzuki is poised to make a significant impact in the rapidly growing electric vehicle market.
