Mon Nov 04 18:58:09 UTC 2024: ## Jammu and Kashmir Assembly to Remember Separatist Leader Geelani and Other Eminent Personalities
The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly will pay tribute to several deceased former legislators and parliamentarians, including separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, during its session on Tuesday.
The assembly speaker will deliver obituary references commemorating the lives of those who passed away since the last session in February 2018.
Others who will be remembered include former President Pranab Mukherjee, former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee, former governor Jagmohan Malhotra, and BJP MLA Devender Singh Rana.
Geelani, a three-time MLA from Sopore, served in the assembly in 1972, 1977, and 1987. He joined the separatist movement in 1989 following the eruption of militancy in the region and subsequently boycotted elections until his death in 2021.
