Tue Nov 05 15:34:51 UTC 2024: ## Tiruchi Temple Tank Choked by Weeds, Garbage Despite Desilting
**Tiruchi, November 5, 2024:** The Kasi Viswanathar temple tank at Gandhipuram in Tiruchi remains in a state of neglect, covered in silt, weeds, and garbage despite being desilted in 2017. Residents are concerned about the impact on the local water table, as the overgrown vegetation prevents rainwater from permeating the ground.
“The tank used to replenish our wells,” said P.N. Uthra, a local resident. “Now, the weeds and hyacinths are choking it, and some people still continue to dump garbage.”
Although the Tiruchi City Corporation removed the garbage six months ago, the problem persists. Residents are urging the Corporation to dredge the tank regularly and implement long-term solutions.
“We hope they will plant lotuses to control the weed growth and make the tank beautiful,” added Uthra.
K. Suresh Kumar, Corporation Councillor representing ward 23, confirmed that a tender has been floated for ₹1 lakh to dredge the tank. Plans are also in place to beautify the area and create a walking track around it.
