**Coimbatore, November 5, 2024:** The Coimbatore District (Rural) Superintendent of Police, K. Karthikeyan, has suspended five policemen for alleged misconduct, including assault and bribery.
The most serious incident involved Grade II Constable Ranjith of the Sirumugai police station, who was suspended for assaulting a man named Velmurugan. Ranjith allegedly dragged Velmurugan to the road and kicked him with boots after the man refused to accompany the police to the station. The incident, captured on surveillance camera footage, came to the attention of the SP, who immediately took action.
Further investigations revealed that Ranjith and another policeman visited Velmurugan’s home to question him about his son, Karthik, who was accused of not returning borrowed money.
In a separate incident, Special Sub-Inspector Prabhakaran and Head Constable Madankumar of the Enforcement Bureau, Perur unit, were placed under suspension for allegedly demanding bribes from a toddy seller and a person selling liquor illegally.
Two other policemen, Head Constable Selvakumar of Vadakkipalayam police station and Constable Panjalingam of Gomangalam police station, were suspended for allegedly collecting money from truck drivers at the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border checkpost at Nadupuni.
The SP’s swift action demonstrates the commitment to upholding law and order and maintaining public trust in the police force. The suspended officers will face disciplinary action following investigations into their alleged misconduct.
