Tue Nov 05 12:50:00 UTC 2024: ## Undervoting Won’t Void Your Ballot: Your Vote Still Counts, Even if You Skip Races
As Americans head to the polls today, some voters may choose to vote in only certain races or on specific initiatives. This practice, known as undervoting, is perfectly acceptable and doesn’t invalidate your ballot. Even if you only vote for down-ballot races or the presidential race, your vote will be counted for the races you choose.
“You don’t need to vote in every race on the election ballot,” confirmed Paul Schiff Berman, law professor at The George Washington University Law School. While you can skip certain races, be sure to mark your choices clearly and follow your state’s specific voting instructions, such as signing your ballot or placing it in a secrecy sleeve. Election officials advise voters to read the instructions carefully, especially when voting by mail or in person.
With early voting surging, Gallup estimates that more than half of all ballots will be cast before Election Day. As the election draws near, both Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, along with their running mates, are focusing their campaigns on key battleground states.
With only five days left until polls close, the race is heating up, and every vote counts. So make sure your voice is heard and cast your ballot for the races that matter to you.
