**TIRUPATTUR, November 3, 2024:** Eight individuals were arrested by the Ambur Taluk police on Sunday for engaging in gambling activities at a private lodge in Vinnamangalam village near Ambur. The police seized ₹1.5 lakh in cash, gambling cards, four motorcycles, and 10 mobile phones from the suspects.

The arrested individuals, identified as R. Manikandan (50), D. Murugan (39), G. Selvakumar (40), P. Balaji (39), J. Dawood (41), A. Vendan (40), R. Lakshman (32), and G. Sasikumar (41), hail from Dharmapuri, Vaniyambadi, and Ambur. The group, known to each other for years, had reportedly been engaging in gambling activities across Tirupattur and Dharmapuri districts for several months.

According to police investigations, the gang capitalized on the recent festival holidays to evade detection. They rented a lodge room in a remote village near Ambur to avoid police surveillance. However, a special team formed by Tirupattur SP Shreya Gupta had been monitoring the gang’s online communications for several weeks. Acting on a tip-off, the police raided the lodge and apprehended the suspects.

The arrested individuals have been charged under sections 188 and 269 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and have been lodged at the sub-jail in Tirupattur. The police are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
