Mon Nov 04 14:01:35 UTC 2024: ## Hundreds of Dead Fish Found in Bengaluru Lake, Residents Blame Sewage

**Bengaluru, November 4, 2024** – A distressing scene unfolded at Rampura lake in Ramamurthy Nagar on Monday morning, as hundreds of dead fish were discovered floating on the water’s surface. Residents, who witnessed the grim sight during their morning walks, attribute the fish kill to sewage contamination, a problem exacerbated by recent heavy rainfall.

The lake’s water has turned black due to the inflow of untreated sewage, residents allege. They claim that despite ongoing construction of a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) by the lake development authority, the project remains incomplete, leaving the water untreated.

“Highly polluted water is flowing into the lake from Hebbal,” said Thangadurai Arunachalam, a local resident. “No measures are being taken to divert this contaminated water, and it’s flowing directly into the lake.”

While the lake development authority has agreed to remove the dead fish, residents are demanding immediate action from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to address the root cause of the pollution – the unchecked flow of untreated sewage.

The residents urge the BBMP to take responsibility and ensure that the STP is completed swiftly to prevent further environmental damage and the loss of aquatic life in Rampura lake.
