Sun Nov 03 09:41:23 UTC 2024: ## Thousands Rally in DC for Harris and Reproductive Rights Ahead of Election

**Washington, D.C.** – Thousands of women gathered in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, just three days before the presidential election, to show their support for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and reproductive rights. The rally, held at Freedom Plaza with the US Capitol as a backdrop, drew an estimated 15,000 participants, with similar marches taking place in other US cities.

The event was organized in response to the Supreme Court’s decision last year to overturn Roe v. Wade, which had enshrined the constitutional right to abortion for nearly 50 years. Vice President Harris, who has made abortion rights a central plank of her campaign, is seen as a champion for women’s reproductive rights.

“Voting for the candidate that’s going to support our rights as women is the most important thing to me,” said Leah Brooker, 19, who travelled from North Carolina to attend the rally. Brooker, who had already cast her ballot in early voting, said she was “empowered” to vote for a woman for the first time.

Signs held by the crowd reflected the urgency of the issue, with messages such as “If boys will be boys, then women will be presidents” and “Voting prevents unwanted presidencies.”

The rally also served as a reminder of the high stakes of the upcoming election. With abortion access on the ballot in 10 states, the outcome of the election could have significant implications for women’s healthcare across the country.

Marlene Wagner, 70, traveled from Nebraska, where abortion is now banned after the 12th week of pregnancy. “I came for my grandkids and my children because I fear for their future,” she said. “These restrictions have already had repercussions, because women haven’t been able to get the care they need.”

With chants of “We’re not going back!” echoing through the plaza, the rally served as a powerful reminder of the enduring fight for women’s rights in the United States.
