**West Lafayette, IN** – Purdue University has announced a significant expansion of its partnership with India, including the creation of a new educational hub and a joint semiconductor research center. The announcement, made by Purdue President Mung Chiang during a visit by Indiana Senator Todd Young and US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti, marks a major step forward in the university’s global engagement strategy.
“Purdue is excited to grow our long-standing partnership with Indian institutions and companies,” said President Chiang. “Both our new Centre for Education and Engagement in Delhi and the new US-India Centre of Excellence in Semiconductors, established in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad and supported by our Indian and U.S. governments, are milestone steps toward the expansion of this strategic partnership.”
The Purdue-India Centre for Education and Engagement will serve as a physical presence for the university in India, fostering collaborations and laying the groundwork for joint degree programs in high-demand fields like artificial intelligence, data science, semiconductors, and business. These programs will be developed in close collaboration with leading Indian institutions.
The US-India Centre of Excellence in Semiconductors, established with IIT Hyderabad, aims to advance research and development in the critical field of semiconductor technology. This joint venture, supported by both Indian and U.S. governments, represents a significant commitment to strengthening the global semiconductor supply chain.
The announcement follows a series of meetings in late September, where Purdue delegates engaged with Indian government officials, leading academics, and industry leaders across India. These discussions focused on enhancing educational collaboration, expanding joint research and development initiatives, and identifying new opportunities for partnership.
The new centers represent a significant expansion of Purdue’s existing partnership with India and are expected to benefit both students and faculty at the university, while simultaneously bolstering Purdue’s global impact.
