**Chennai, November 3, 2024:** Two separate incidents in Chennai saw police personnel attacked by groups of individuals.
In the first incident, Ayanavaram Police arrested five people, including a known criminal, for assaulting a constable on patrol duty. Constable Muthurasu, 32, was attempting to de-escalate a heated argument between two individuals near a Corporation School on Thursday night. When he intervened, the pair and three accomplices turned on him, pelting him with stones. Passersby intervened and the attackers fled. Muthurasu sustained injuries and was hospitalized.
In a separate incident, Otteri Police arrested four men for attacking officers during a vehicle inspection. A police team, led by a sub-inspector, was conducting checks near the junction of Stephenson Road and Dr Ambedkar Road early Thursday morning. They stopped a car with four occupants and found illegal fireworks inside. During the inspection, the four men assaulted a constable. S. Balasubramaniam, 35, of Madhavaraman, and the three others were arrested.
Police are investigating both incidents.
